Pedernales Electric: use your own power
What PEC pays and charges
| Item | Rate | Where from |
|---|---|---|
| Flat Base Power Charge | 6.59¢/kWh | PEC Residential Rates, effective Mar 1, 2026 |
| Delivery Charge | 2.2546¢/kWh | same |
| Transmission Cost of Service | 2.0688¢/kWh | same |
| Sustainable Power Credit (exports) | 7.1921¢/kWh, down from 8.2666¢ | PEC 2026 rate update; applied to the Base Power Charge only; unused credit expires at the end of each calendar year |
| Interconnection fee, under 50 kW AC | $500 plus any required upgrades | PEC Solar and Distributed Generation |
Franchise fees, the $32.50 monthly Service Availability Charge and bill credits are separate and not in our math.
So self-use is worth more than exports
A kWh you use in the house saves 10.91¢ (the three per-kWh charges added together, 6.59 + 2.2546 + 2.0688). A kWh you export earns 7.19¢, and only against the Base Power Charge. The slider on the calculator is the single biggest lever for PEC members. Moving pool, laundry or EV charging into sunny hours, or adding a battery, raises it.
The new Interconnect Time-of-Use option
Since March 1, 2026 interconnected members can choose a time-of-use option instead of the flat credit. It needs a 12-month commitment, and after leaving you wait a year to re-enroll. The credit for exports varies by season and hour:
| Season | Period | Credit and charge per kWh |
|---|---|---|
| Summer (June to September) | Off-peak 12:01 a.m.–2 p.m., 9:01 p.m.–12 a.m. | 4.3481¢ |
| Mid-peak 2:01–4 p.m., 8:01–9 p.m. | 9.3169¢ | |
| Peak 4:01–8 p.m. | 16.1843¢ | |
| Shoulder (Mar, Apr, May, Oct, Nov) | Off-peak 12:01 a.m.–5 p.m., 9:01 p.m.–12 a.m. | 4.3481¢ |
| Mid-peak 5:01–9 p.m. | 8.6442¢ | |
| Winter (Dec to Feb) | Off-peak 12:01–5 a.m., 9:01 a.m.–5 p.m., 9:01 p.m.–12 a.m. | 4.3481¢ |
| Mid-peak 5:01–9 a.m., 5:01–9 p.m. | 8.6442¢ |
On this option the same period rate is both what you pay for grid power and what you are credited for exports (PEC calls them the TOU Base Power Charge and TOU Base Power Credit). Our calculator does not model it. A west-facing array or a battery that exports in the 4 to 8 p.m. summer peak is the case worth asking an installer to model, using your own meter data.
Backup-only systems
A battery or generator that never runs in parallel with PEC's lines follows PEC's standby generation requirements instead, per PEC.
